Thearticlecontributestotheknowledgeof Buenos Aires provincepoliceforcebuildingprocess, considering a cycleofreformsdeveloped at theendofthe 19th century. Westudyhowaninstitutionthatwillconcentratepolicefunctions, untilthendeployed in other state'sspheres such as peacejustice, wasconstructed. Wefocuson a perspectiveunconsideredbyhistoriography: the central functionthatthesebodiesacquiredfortheproductionoftheterritory. First, westudythereformof 1878 thatstipulatedtheorganizationofthe Rural Commissariats in a decentralizedoperationsdesign, toact in thecampaign. In second place, we examine thelegislative debates after Buenos Aires' federalization in 1880 to reorganizetheservice -whichbycontrast, defined a centralizeddesignstructuredaroundthe Central Police.
