The Place of Memory in Buenos Aires constitutes a specifi c example where an emblematic place of memory of the city is managed and administered by the Government as well as by many non-governmental social actors. On the one hand, this place embodies the horror of having been a clandestine detention center during the last military dictatorship, while on the other, it is a symbol of a new "Human Rights' culture", after the building was recovered -by the city's government- in 2004. At present, guided and free tours are offered in the "Place". This paper analyzes which conceptions of such a public space, of politics and of memory, are implied in the in memoriam politicies which manage the space and are expressed through the guided tours.
