During the last decades of the twentieth century, as a result of the implementation of na-tional and international development policies involving the construction of infrastructure connected with the growth of towns and cities, the populations living in the affected areas are evicted and relocated. This paper analyzes the offi cial discourse that sustains these spatial and structural disruptions resulting from the impact of development projects, and the resulting implementation practices in the case of the construction of the Potrerillos Dam in Mendoza, Argentina, in 2001, leading to the eviction and relocation of population. The methodology used involved reviewing secondary sources such as literature, news-papers and offi cial documents, together with primary data obtained from interviews with the relocated population.
