The following article is based on the analysis in the southern outskirts of the city of Comodoro Rivadavia, more precisely the informal settlement "Extension October 30". The analysis, focused first, on its environmental problems and, on the other hand, within this context and in constant relationship, those public policies and municipal interventions related to the resolution of the environmental issues. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and participant observation. The results involving environmental issues in the neighborhood are related to the antagonistic municipal reactions to the realities of informal settlements. From this political stance, symbolic and material obstacles are created that deepen neighborhood problems and isolates access to potential urban benefits. Against this reality, neighborhood communal participatory action initiatives are encouraged.
