Resumen

PEREZ ROMAGNOLI, Eduardo. Coopers and cooperage in San Juan (Argentina): immigrants and local artisans in the first decades of expertise wine (1885-1930). Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2012, vol.12. ISSN 1853-4392.

The cooperage was one of the activities induced by modern winemaking in San Juan since the late nineteenth century. Most coopers were immigrants from European wine countries, mainly Spain and Italy. They founded autonomous workshops or, most of them worked at the cooperages located inside the wineries. Beside identify coopers who opened their own production units, the work emphasizes, among other things, the role of merchants of barrels and timber used to repair and build packaging, some problems they have faced in their beginnings, their links with metallurgical activity and the strikes of coopers operating inside the wineries.
