Abstract

ARTURI, Diego; LANGARD, Federico  and  ADRIANI, Héctor Luis. The industry of the Great La Plata according the last National Economic Census. Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2012, vol.12. ISSN 1853-4392.

This paper aims at characterizing the industrial sector in the Greater La Plata area, based on the information collected during the latest National Economic Census (NEC 2004/2005). First of all, we identify the main features of the industrial sector on a national level during the Liberal and Postconvertibility periods, using specialized bibliography as well as statistic and technical report analyses. In the second part of the paper, the industrial sector in the Greater La Plata area is analyzed based on interviews to qualified informants and on census data related to number of establishments, jobs taken, line of work, size of industrial premises, productivity and township industrial specialization; an approach to technological intensity levels by line of work is also attempted. The following conclusions may be drawn from this analysis: predominance of micro and small businesses, productivity levels which are higher than the national average, little contribution from highly technological lines of work and lack of specialization, which prevents well-defined industrial profile determination.

Keywords : Industrial production; Sector transformations; Analysis by line of work; Technological intensity.
