Abstract

This article discusses the idea of development and disaster, from the growth of the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. It analyzes the socio historical formation of the urbanization process involves a dispute over space and water management. Furthermore, the relationship between the piping of water, subsidence and flooding, as part of disaster-risk scenario here is established. Thus, we conclude that this context is a consequence of the idea of development that enabled the emergence of a type of inherited and environmental predatory city, which is currently suffering its consequences as constant flooding.
