Abstract

MIRANDA GASSULL, Virginia  and  GOMEZ CARRIZO, Heliana. Water and Habitat in the rural dry land north of Mendoza, Argentina: Economic transformations and housing configuration due to the absence of water resources. Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2019, vol.25. ISSN 1853-4392.

The objective is to identify the economic strategies developed from the processes of desertification (environmental and social) that impact on the organization of rural habitat. The case study is the original Huarpe Town and the changes that have taken place since the 21st century. The methodology corresponds to an explanatory descriptive design and the triangulation of instruments. Some of the data collection instruments used were: survey of positions as an architectural analysis unit, in-depth interviews, surveys and participatory workshops. The result is the transformation of the dispersed rural housing logic towards a concentrated logic, as a consequence of the economic strategies according to the total decrease of the surface water supply of the area.

Keywords : Livestock stations; Productive; Pluriactive; Habitat; Water.
