Abstract

PONZI, Brenda Sofía. Gold or nuts: the destructuring of the irrigation system for the implementation of the megamining territoriality in Andalgalá, province of Catamarca (Argentina). Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2019, vol.26. ISSN 1853-4392.

In the context of accumulation by dispossession, during the decade of 1990 a massive capital flow was directed to the mining extractivist sector in Argentine. The focus were territories labelled as deserts. With the development of a new model of a mining territory for the village of Andalgalá, in the province of Catamarca (Argentina), the irrigation system that had been organized to secure the agricultural space circuits was dismantled. This article examines the reconfigurations -both legally and institutionally- made to give way to megamining in the districts of Chaquiago, Choya, Amanao and Villa Vil.

Keywords : Regulations; Mining model; Institutions; Circuits.
