Abstract
GABRIELA MABEL, Portantier. La devoción a Isis entre las mujeres: una perspectiva epigráfica. Argos [online]. 2011, vol.34, n.1, pp.71-95. ISSN 1853-6379.
The epigraphic habit became popular in the Imperial period and crystallized in the formulaic expressions and topics of the funerary inscriptions. These created patterns that were linked to social prestige, which explains its emulation among non-Roman citizens. The Isiac epigraphs studied in this article reveal the way a foreign cult received the classical pattern of epitaphs. On the one hand, its resemantization conveys the place of Isis' female priesthood in Rome. On the other hand, the iconographic representation that complemented them allows interpretation of the socio-cultural context of their production.
