Paradise and Cain and Abel are two early homiletic treatises by Ambrose of Milan (IVth century) that expose a conception of human nature inheritor from Hellenistic Judaism. In that way, both texts base on certain dualities because they focus on man as an ontological and ethic ambiguous creature, such as that of the work by Philo of Alexandrie (Ist century). This paper has two objectives: a) to determine how the bishop of Milan interprets the parts of Holy Scripture that describe the original state of human being, and b) in which punctual aspects that representation deals with philonic anthropology. The analysis will focus on Adam and Eve in the case of Paradise and on their sons in that of Cain and Abel.
