The following article aims to examine a group of categories, issues and approaches that defi ne the realm of religion in contemporary societies according to the results from a survey on religious beliefs and attitudes in Argentina. Some researches carried out in other countries have been included in this analysis, which leads us to observe the socioreligious phenomena from a comparative standpoint. In relation to the ideal-typical cases (the American religious pluralism, the French secularity), which is the distinctive feature in the process of secularization in the Argentinean society? Th e hypothesis about a specular model of constructing the religion warns us about the confessional effi ciency of catholic tradition in its relation with the State and the public space and how it sets an example for other diff erent religious groups.
