PACE, Enzo. Pope Francis facing the systematic crisis of the Church, One, Holy, Catholic and Roman. Soc. relig. [online]. 2013, vol.23, n.40, pp.245-271. ISSN 1853-7081.
Pope Francis facing the systematic crisis of the Church, One, Holy, Catholic and Roman. Pope Francesco will face a systemic crisis of the Catholic Church. The model of the Church, one, holy, Catholic and Roman no longer holds. The internal pluralism, the distance between Rome and the national churches, the idea of an authority that continues to be regarded as the sole custodian of truth, the challenges of bioethics and issues of clerical celibacy removed as modal and the exclusion of women from a priestly role, are the most relevant issues of the agenda of the Pope. The church-model, as it has been defined by the Council of Trent, slightly reformed by Vatican II, appeared ill and fragile, that the gesture of resignation by Pope Benedict XVI has visually revealed. Bergoglio seems to have understood the historic significance of the task that awaits him, since the outward signs of change, immediately comprehensible and visible, refer to the desire to put in the centre of the pastoral action themes of compassion and charity and don't intend the faith as a truth only to defend, but as a promising experience way of living.
