In this work, I combine the contributions of ethnographic research that deals with death in the Andean geographic region in general, and in Argentina in particular, with the disciplinary aspect interested in the study of symbols, its contributions for the study of liminality, and the main pieces of criticismit has received. My analysis is centered on the mortuary ritual action that occurs in the village of El Cajón, Catamarca, North-West Argentina. In particular, from the field work itself, I examine the contributions of these studies for the analysis of different kinds of transitions in death rituals. Finally, I make an analytical proposal that permits to give an account of those cases in which the passing from a structural state to the following one is periodically updated, and which I name cyclic liminality.
