This article presents a review of the main contributions of the study of religion in the social sciences (from the second half of the twentieth century to the present), framed in the particular context of the development of the interaction between the intellectual field and Mexican field of power. On the one hand, represents a state of affairs on the issues, interests and debates that frame the study of religion, but on the other hand, it also seeks to make comprehensible approaches, omissions and inclusions illuminated by the historical conditions that shape the focus and interests of the study
