VENEL, Nancy y DUCLOUX, Thibault. “This is a God test!”: Carceral contradictions and religious alternatives in inmates’ trajectories. Soc. relig. [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.46, pp.52-83. ISSN 1853-7081.
This paper offers to discuss the existant literature concerning the prison phenomenon and the religious experiences through the study of a single trajectory. By carrying out a return to a general epistemology, we seek to identify the questions that a relatively specific scientific production of contemporary sociological research ask. The religious’ place and role in inmates adjustment process raises to a certain kind of sociological questioning that issues seems to exceed « religion » or « prison » entities: beyond the persistent opposition between individual and institution, our ambition is to contribute to a sociology of individuals put in extra-ordinary situation in which religious can beconsider as a sign permitting to grasp at once transmutation of social contradictions in individuals clashs modalities and understand the unsettling effect sinmates experienced in prison.
