The Indigenous Christian Theology (ICT) is a pathway the San Cristóbal de Las Casas Catholic diocese (Chiapas) has taken in order to respect the ethnic, cultural and religious differences and to build an "Autochthonous Church". Yet, the control of ICT still remains in non-indigenous ecclesiastical authorities through reinterpretation of autochthonous ritualities. As a consequence, a sort of veiled resistance among some catholic indigenous groups have emerged, i.e., not establishing any conflict with Catholic Church. Through an ethnographic research in some tojolabal communities in Chiapas, Mexico, in this paper I will explain the reproduction of ethno-religious contexts through ICT trying to answer how and why ICT and veiled-resistance operate.
