Resumen

GARATEGARAY, Martina. In between Perón and Alfonsín: Notes on the peronist renewal (1983-1988). Temas debates (En línea) [online]. 2013, n.25, pp.35-57. ISSN 1853-984X.

Peronist Renovation appeared as an internal current after Peronist electoral defeat in 1983, but it constituted itself formally by publishing its Foundational Manifest in 1985 signed by its national leaders: Cafiero, Menem and Grosso. By 1987, with its victory in elections, the Renovation consolidated itself as the hegemonic current in peronism becoming a valid political alternative to radicalism. Nevertheless, in the justicialist internal elections in 1988, the cafierist wing was defeated by the menemist wing, identified with the less renewed sectors of peronism. In spite of its short life, the Renovation represented a particular articulation on the national and popular values with the democratic and liberal ones. This article aims to reconstruct the way consensus, deliberation, representative democracy on a hand, and nation, unity, leadership and people on the other, were articulated between 1983 and 1988. The way in which this changing and in tension articulation took place not only conditioned the Renovation experience, but made manifest the persistent tension between the"liberal country" and the"peronist nation".
