This paper analyzes the relationship between politics and development, starting from a critical judgment of the history of development in Latin America: as it has been and it is understood, and what actions have been driven and are promoted in its name. The proposal is to reflect from the theory and Latin American experience. Today development raises questions as universally valid historical project, being that Latin American reality shows limitations and great needs. We are in a very unequal, suffering part of world, and communities are wondering about the validity of the traditional approaches and the possibility to adapt them to a new historical time. The approachare three theses coming from a political scienceview about development, and from Latin America, because if there is a possibility of re-meaningis from history and regional reality. In this way, thesis concept supposes a refection supported in theoretical and practical evidences, from a way of thinking situated and contextualized act on the experiences of the people and governments of Latin America.
