Abstract

VICENTE, Martín. The liberal-conservative smile: Politics, ideology and social chance in El Burgués magazine humor (1971-1973). Temas debates (En línea) [online]. 2019, n.37, pp.67-93. ISSN 1853-984X.

This article makes a reading of the uses of humor in the current magazine El Burgués (The Bourgeois), published between 1971 and 1973. The analysis is based on three axes: first, the publication site is presented in its various contexts; Secondly, we analyze how humor was used to promote a binary vision of politics; third, the question of social change from the political and humoristic perspective of the magazine. It is proposed that the study of the humoristic guidelines of the journal is a worthy point to capture a topic not covered by the bibliography on liberal-conservatism in these years: humor as a political tool.

Keywords : El Burgués (The Bourgeois); Liberal-conservatism; Political humor.
