The article presents an overview of the Argentine secondary education system based on a disaggregated reading of the statistical data that reveal some phenomena that the aggregated data hide. It shows the primacy of social origin over degrees in the definition of labor destinations, and a behavior of the middle and high sectors in relation to the completion of the level, until now unexplored. Finally, the characteristics acquired by the level in the last 40 years are marked.
