Resumen

CUCHAN, NATALIA. Going Through Compulsory Rural Secondary School: Challenges in the Pampas Region. Propuesta educativa (Online) [online]. 2022, n.57, pp.112-124. ISSN 1995-7785.

The right to education and the compulsory nature of secondary school are part of debates and educational reforms promoted since the democratic recovery. One of the edges in socio-educational research - little explored yet - has been to analyze how compulsory schooling is taking shape in the rural context.

The article addresses, through fieldwork carried out in two rural secondary schools in the southeast of Buenos Aires, how compulsory education is configured in these territories. Three aspects observed in the schools addressed are recovered, understanding that they express some features of compulsory schooling in these rural areas. The first refers to the tensions that occur between the compulsory nature of the level, the characteristics of the modality and the early employment of students in the field. The second takes up the ideas of familiarity and sense of belonging generated by the rural environment. The last one expresses the divergences in the recognition of the gender perspective, challenging the ways of coexisting and recognizing each other at school.

Palabras clave : Compulsory; Rurality; Secondary School; Youth; Territory.
