Resumen

MONACO, Julián. EL GOBIERNO DE LOS PÚBLICOS EN LA ERA DE LOS BIG DATA: PISTAS A PARTIR DEL CASO KOSINSKI. Intersecc. comun. (En línea) [online]. 2022, vol.1, n.16, pp.8-8. ISSN 2250-4184.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.51385/ic.v1i16.145.

THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PUBLIC IN THE BIG DATA ERA: CLUES FROM THE KOSINSKI CASE. Between 2013 and 2017, psychologist Michal Kosinski and his colleague David Stillwell released a set of scientific articles for which they received contacts and funding opportunities from both Facebook and the global consulting company Strategic Communications Laboratories Group: the firm of that Cambridge Analytica was, in those years, a subsidiary company. The latest document, in particular, communicates the results of an investigation into large-scale psychological persuasion in the digital world that reached nearly 4 million people (Matz, Stillwell, Gideon, & Kosinski, 2017).

Based on the analysis of these facts, the main purpose of this text is to provide some elements that allow us to answer the question of how the government of the public is being reformulated —that is, according to Foucault, the government of the populations considered in based on their opinions, their ways of doing things, their behaviors, their habits, their fears, their prejudices, their demands (Foucault, 2006 and 2007)—at the beginning of the 21st century, in the era of big data, algorithms and platforms.
