Abstract

This article focuses on one of the major recent transformation of Argentinean educational system: the primary schooling decentralization. This policy was implemented by the national government between 1961 and 1978. We call this educational policy as the ending of national State direct action on primary schooling. First, we describe the educational decentralization process, which was implemented by civil and military authorities during this historical period. We assert that it is possible to find several continuities among these policies, despite the different and subsequent national governments. Then, we study the curricula changes in primary schooling during this time. Finally, we point out some of the main consequences that the primary schooling decentralization has had on the further basic education development and its coordination.
