This article intends to undertake a tracking milestones in the conformation of physical education school in Uruguay in its first 50 years. From a theoretical and methodological analysis of discourse becomes aware of the main traditions of discourse on the education of the body and specifically on physical education. Figures are tracked historical sources relevant to the formation of the uruguayan educational system and especially in the formation of physical education in our country. Also discussed in the first manual of school' s physical education and the first action plan for school' s physical education. During this period, what predominated was a vision of school physical education mainly focused on biomedical and sanitary aspects. The physical education was composed on the one hand, the calisthenics (with strong military features) and free games, and the other, corrective exercises and respiratory and orthopedic purposes of hygiene lectures. The physical education exceeded specific areas of the yard and breaks and infused from the search for a healthy body all the areas of school life.
