The systematic repressive policy implemented against social sciences in Argentinean universities since 1974 had moments of diverse intensity and adopted different modalities and approaches. In the case of the National University of Mar del Plata (UNMDP) different undergraduate programs were progressively eliminated (for example, anthropology, sociology, political sciences), because they were manifestly defined as disciplines that promoted "subversive" practices. After the coup d´état of 1976 the military dictatorship completed the repressive process presenting analogous arguments, but also gradually included some "technical" premises in order to justify the elimination of undergraduate program as well as the denial to consider the mere possibility of re-opening such programs, suggested by some sporadic and isolated claims. In fact, the civilian authorities that had been designated by the military government in the UNMDP did not make reference to the "subversive" danger but adopted a new discourse whose main topics were resource management efficiency and connections with the labor world. This process was framed within a national context of budget cuts and elimination of "minor programs", which involved for example the implementation of the student quotas system.
