Abstract

This article takes stock of the history of indigenous education produced by academic research and publications in books and magazines in the last decades in Brazil , considering this to be a recent theme of historical studies on ethnic and cultural educatio n and diversity. The survey carried out , without being exhaustive , sought to identify the moments and places selected by researchers from the process of European colonization to contemporary times in which policies and practices are presented that allow th e transformation of an education for the indigenous , with integrationist objectives and in an indigenous school education focused on the maintenance of diverse cultures , their traditional languages and their territories. It identifies the different academic places in which research has been carried out and the peculiarities and diversities of indigenist and indigenous researchers , as well as the changes in historiographical trends articulated to the production of anthropology and linguistics. It emphasizes in the selected research the ways of approach regarding cultural diversity , the issues of alterity and permanence or possibilities of overcoming ethnocentric methodologies.
