ESCALANTE FERNANDEZ, Carlos. Revisitando la Casa del Estudiante Indígena, México (1924 - 1932). Hist. educ. anu. [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.2, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9277.

Mexican historiography on Indigenous education has an important corpus of knowledge that has allowed to show the active presence of indigeno us groups in the formation of local schooling networks during the nineteenth century, and the construction of the national education system towards the end of this century and the first decades of the XX and has allowed to understand the slow process of in digenous incorporation to schooling. This corpus has began to shape two decades ago and includes works that have addressed different periods that would cover from the end of the eighteenth century until the first half of the twentieth century. Due to the a mount of works on the subject, this article focuses on the review of works published around an institution designed to « Civilize the Indians » of the country: The House of the Indian Student (Casa del Estudiante Indígena). This institution, founded in post - revolutionary Mexico, operated in Mexico City between 1924 and 1932. The institution pretended to achieve the full incorporation of young people from different ethnic groups so that when they returned to their places of origin they radiated national cultur e among their comunities and showed that the indigenous was an educable being and able to embrace national civilization because he had the physical and mental capacity for it. This historiographic count aims to show how this institution has been studied, r eflecting the general modes of operation of historians of indigenous education.
