Between 1971 and 1975, an expansión of the university higher education system was carried out in Argentina. During the period 1971-1973, under the presidency of Lanusse, more than 10 new institutions were created. This process continued during the following brief constitutional period between 1973 and 1975. In this article we aim to analyze the immediate consequences of the policy that created new national universities between 1971 and 1975. Also, given the impossibility of carrying out a detailed and in-depth analysis of the university situation in the long term, due to the self-called Proceso de Reorganización Nacional and dictatorship between 1976 and 1983, we will try to approach the consequences in the médium term (1982-1992). Specifically, we are interested in accounting trends regarding enrollments, graduations, as well as the distribution of those in the large areas of study in different parís of the country. To do this we will work with secondary and primary sources, among which we can mention the statistics ofthe Ministry of Culture and Education.
