Resumen

MICHEL, Caroline Braga; ARRIADA, Eduardo  y  NOGUEIRA, Gabriela Medeiros. MISSÃO DE ESTUDOS AO URUGUAI: O QUE DIZEM OS PROFESSORES ACERCA DO JARDIM DE INFÂNCIA. Hist. educ. anu. [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.1, pp.87-106. ISSN 2313-9277.

This study aims to discuss a group of teachers’ perceptions on the organization and operation of Kindergarten in Montevideo, Uruguay. It should be noted that such a group of teachers was part of a study mission to Uruguay, in 1913, nominated by the authorities of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The mission was intended to qualify the State’s educational system, found under a consolidation and expansion process. At that time, Uruguay was a mirror for Rio Grande do Sul, historically seen as a prosperous Republic with an increased modernization process where education had reached high levels of efficiency. This was a well-known fact: including the French politician Clemenceau, on his travels through South America (1910), pointed to the high level of schooling in Uruguayan society. Therefore, the main source of analysis for this documentary research is the Travel Report written by the group of teachers who were part of the mission. The impressions contained in the document deal especially with aspects related to school material culture and teacher training. In addition, they made it possible to show that, from the commissioners’ perspective, such an institution, which served 3- to 6-year-old children, greatly honored its founder and Froebel’s guidelines.
