Abstract

SANCHEZ, Silvina. The obstinate music of emptiness: “Prosa de Estado”, literature and experience in Marcelo Cohen. CELEHIS [online]. 2017, n.34, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9463.

The article intends to approach Marcelo Cohens essays and fictions to look into the ways in which, through crossing and sliding between these two kinds of writing, an impure and interstitial poetics is built. Conceptions of language (specifically the notion of “State prose”), literature and experience are analysed as presented by Cohen in some of his essays, as well as the ways in which the stories “La ilusión monarca” and “Aspectos de la vida de Enzatti” (El fin de lo mismo) are related to those conceptions. It is stated that the notion of literature built in Cohens poetics comes from the need of resistance to “State prose” -understood as a device of restraint and control- and tries certain privileged figurations: a topographic image that moves literature “somewhere else” or “towards another place”, one different from the space surrounded by dominant language; an image of literature as seismic movement, where transgression is carried out as “minimum shakes”; and the idea of trance between language and experience, like an unsolved tension, a continuous development of emptiness wish and writing wonder.

Keywords : Contemporary Argentinean narrative - essay - Marcelo Cohen - language - experience.
