Abstract

ARCOS, Jorge Luis. The critique of the unspeakable: About Poetry, Autonomous Kingdom by Roberto Fernández Retamar. CELEHIS [online]. 2017, n.34, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9463.

Critical article on the Argentinean edition of Poetry, Autonomous Kingdom (2016), of Roberto Fernandez Retamar - that extends the Cuban one (2000) -, compilation of almost all its critical and essayistic production on poetry and Iberoamerican poets. An evaluation of his critical trajectory is made, especially of his participation as a critic and poet of the so-called Hispanic-American conversational poetry. In accordance with the initial context of the Cuban Revolution, the emergence of the conversational norm and its commitment to the construction of a Latin American literary theory, some of its ideas are debated, or others are qualified. Many of his cognitive contributions are recognized. It emphasizes the presence of Argentine literature, especially of Borges, in his poetic thinking. It is a question of characterizing the nature of his style (of his prose) as critic and essayist; the uniqueness of his gaze; some of its sources and affinities, both ideological and literary, as well as its strategies of (self) legitimation of Hispanic American poetry. Its formative stage in the field of the Orígenes group stands out.

Keywords : Critical - Essay - Poetry - Conversational - Hispanic America.
