Abstract

SALVIONI, Amanda. Images of the invisible The Ranqueles in the Argentine literary illustration . CELEHIS [online]. 2018, n.36, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9463.

Una excursión a los indios ranqueles, by Lucio V. Mansilla, has been published in numerous illustrated editions throughout its history, starting from 1870. The illustrations gave rise to an iconographic tradition that marked the reception of the text. It can be said that the relationship between words and images decisively influences the meaning of the text, as it was historically determined. This essays analyzes the iconic paratexts in constant dialogue with the text, the artistic milieu, the horizons of expectations of the readers and the extratextual realities evoked in the book. In particular, editions of the twentieth century will be analyzed, since the first editions of the XIX have been the subject of a study published elsewhere.

Keywords : Illustrations; Iconography; Ranqueles; Lucio V. Mansilla.
