The aim of this investigation is to show the importance of the cultural dimension on integrations processes and to analyze the incidence of this dimension on MERCOSUR process, especially since the foundation of MERCOSUR Cultural, in 1995. This study is organized in three seccions. The first one defines the concept of cultural integration and its influence on integration processes that have an economical logic, such as MERCOSUR. On the second part, the cultural inheritance of the member countries is analyzed with the aim of identifying the actual differences, so as to describe the concept of unity in diversity. Finally, the process that lead to institutionalize MERCOSUR Cultural is described, and also its specialized meetings, the way it works and, especially its progress and setbacks from its creation up to the present.
