The aim of this article is to propose an analysis of the transformations induced by the arrival of new actors and uses of the lands (forestry, agriculture), in the evolution of the agrarian system of a region historically orientated towards extensive bovine and wool ranching, in Tacuarembó, Uruguay. It considers the technical-economic transformations that are observed in the farming systems, and proposes a first analysis of the economic and social sustainability of this evolution, resting on indicators as the produced added value and his distribution, as well as elements of description of the dynamics of employment.
