Abstract

VICENTE, Martín. EL MUNDO DICE A LATINOAMÉRICA, LATINOAMÉRICA DICE AL MUNDO: Orden Cristiano ante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Rev. hist. am. argent. [online]. 2015, vol.50, n.1, pp.225-247. ISSN 2314-1549 .

Orden Cristiano (Christian Order) magazine was one of the most remarkable intellectual experiences of a minor, refreshing and quirky sector of Argentinean Catholicism of the 1940s: one consisting of intellectuals and activists who understood democracy as the only possible horizon for the development of catholic politics. Distant to most of the hierarchy, faced with the nationalist Catholicism and clearly aligned in favor of the Allies in the Second World War, the intellectual group that carried out the experience of the magazine read the instances of world war from an Argentinean and Latin American perspective, permanently inscribed the local in the universal (and vice versa). In this paper we propose a reposition of the publication in the space of the complex positions of Catholic intellectuals and the debates on democracy, for a further approach to how Latin America appeared as an indivisible problem of the global conflict understood as a problem of humanity, and the site that fit there to Argentina.

Keywords : Orden Cristiano; Intellectuals; Catholicism; Latin America; World War II.
