This article collects the most recent conceptual statements that allow to recover the validity of the regional historical construction, deeply appreciated by historiographical traditions in several Latin American countries, as a possible way to overcome the frequently homogeneous perspectives of still current national histories, in which state boundaries -whether they be national or provincial- work many times as limits for the depiction of an extremely more rich and complex past. It is within this framework that regional history could turn into a fruitful and operative field, especially if its anticipated delimitation is avoided, paying attention to the making of social relationships that will allow its definition as regional scope. This could make possible to move up into explanatory levels of social behavior in a more reduced space, although not exaggeratedly micro nor exclusively local. Such relations always respond to broader macro-social realities and are enriched by them, and might even be useful for correcting excessively generalizing interpretations.
