Abstract

This study aims to analyze the woman, caregiver of disabled people, according to gender category, from a project of teaching/research/extension in the field of Physical Education. The subjects of research were seven mothers of young people and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in theextension project "Caregivers who dance". This qualitative-nature work used as instrument for collecting data the semi-structured interview with interpretations based on content analysis. We concluded that mothers caregivers are in this place because of a cultural-historic construction and that there is an overload of work allocated to female figures who lack the development of equitable public policies for caring work between the State and the family.
