The case of Domingo Villafañe, a well-known transporter established in Tucumán during the late colonial period, highlights the important role played by transportation on the patrimonial accumulation and the generation of capital flows in the region. Herein, we link transportation to the trade between the Hispano-American colonies, the transatlantic mercantile trade, and the productive activities of the hacienda. Also, the case presents relevant data about the business-related mechanisms involved in transportation, as well as a taxation-based estimate of the income flow. Overall, this case report opens new questions to the economic studies of the time.
