Our purpose is to review the situation opened by the battle of Caseros in Tucumán in 1852 and 1853. This paper postulates that Caseros’ outcome activated actions of those defeated in the Northern League during 1841 in the sense that they promoted a scenario of confrontation, which analysis gives us greater intelligibility of the tensions in Tucumán society after this event. We propose to define the continuities and ruptures using different scales of observation that reveal the complexity of the situation and relates Tucumán with regional, national and transnational spaces. Also, we examine the province’s militarization process, commanders’ power, the relationships between headquarters, middle ranks and soldiers and militiamen’s attitudes towards Celedonio Gutiérrez’s dismissal.
