Resumen

INTXAUSTEGI JAUREGI, Nere Jone. La mujer y los recursos económicos de los conventos en Bilbao (siglos XVII y XVIII). Travesía (San Miguel de Tucumán) [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.2, pp.63-82. ISSN 2314-2707.

In Early Modern Age took place the conventual blooming in the Basque Country, and the city of Bilbao, which in economic terms was the most important city in Northern Spain, was not indifferent to that phenomenon. There were seven female convents in Bilbao and all of them were the example of the rules carried out in Catholic world, where the existing social differences were also repeated inside the nunneries, as the dowries carried by the women reflect. On the other hand, the conventual economy shows the that juros, censos and rents also played an important role not only in the life of the nuns but in the economic evolution of Bilbao. The aim of this paper is therefore to focus on the female conventual economy of Bilbao during the 17th and 18th centuries, but not forgetting the social impact that the economic measures had.
