PERREN, Joaquín e LAMFRE, Laura. Quality of life and migrations in an intermediate city in Argentina (Neuquén, 2001). Travesía (San Miguel de Tucumán) [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.2, pp.115-142. ISSN 2314-2707.
This work is part of what some authors have called the "spatial turn". Specifically, it aims to analyze the relationship between quality of life and migration processes in the city of Neuquén towards the beginning of the 21st century. In methodological terms, information provided by the 2001 National Population and Housing Census and thematic cartographies elaborated with Geographic Information Systems are used. A journey that presents five clearly defined moments is proposed. In the first place, an approximation to the concept of quality of life is provided, probing possible ways to make it operational in agglomerations of intermediate size. In second instance, the context in which they produced significant gaps in welfare is explored. Third, the spatial distribution of quality of life is examined, distinguishing those principles that structured the urban landscape of Neuquén. The fourth section of the work scrutinizes the location of the inhabitants of the city according to their migratory status. Finally, with the purpose of giving the study a multidimensional look, we observe the way in which quality of life and migratory condition were correlated in the process of spatial differentiation.
