Sicily was the bridge over which sugar cane travelled from Asia to America from the 12th to the 15th century. For the history of Sicily, the sugar cane agroindustry, lasting for more than two centuries, is the undisputed evidence that a “feudal” Sicily from the 12th to the 20th century is a “black legend”, i.e. a distorted narrative. Capitalism existed in Sicily as of the second half of the 15th century. Also in this case, literature and historical truth do not agree.
