In this paper we aim to go through the process of transformation of a town in the Puna de Atacama, Jujuy Province, Argentina. Through the recognition and analysis of the changes in urban planning along the 20th century, we will show the links between spatial configurations and the changes in social practices, within the framework of government policies implemented in the region. Due to its particular historical background, the town of Susques, in which we will focus, is an interesting space to take account of those relations. We will consider both the ethnographic fieldwork we have developed in Susques since 2004, and written and photographic documents from different archives.
