Abstract

DIEZ, Fernando. The invention of place: thematization in the new Buenos Aires suburbs. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2014, vol.44, n.1, pp.91-102. ISSN 2362-2024.

The colonization of Buenos Aires new suburbs along the last decade of the twentieth century and the first decade of the twenty-first shows the development of new ways of stylistic characterization dominated by new concepts: thematization and enclave. These developments convey a tendency for a new simulation (in the Baudrilliardinian sense) of place , that progressively moves from amusement and entertainment parks to vacation places and commercial malls, to be finally naturalized in the residential suburban areas.

Keywords : Buenos Aires; Suburbs; Thematization; Enclave.
