Abstract

SCHAVELZON, Daniel  and  GIRELLI, Francisco. Grottos, rocaille and cement trees: a lost architecture of Buenos Aires 1880-1910. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2014, vol.44, n.2, pp.205-224. ISSN 2362-2024.

This article discusses how the official architectural style which defined the landscape of all squares, parks and gardens in Buenos Aires between 1880 and the early twentieth century was erased and silenced in a few years, to the point of being almost forgotten in the memory of the city. Two cases are analyzed: Recoleta and Constitución, because of their scale and how amazing it is to imagine this architecture in the modern city.

Keywords : Rocaille; Grottos; Buenos Aires; Parks; Recoleta; Constitución.
