Abstract

ALEMAN, Laura. Ernesto Leborgne. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2019, vol.49, n.2, pp.201-218. ISSN 2362-2024.

ABSTRACT Ernesto Leborgne's work is a strange piece within the history of Uruguayan architecture: an isolated and marginal episode that frequently lives in the shadows. Thoughtful and reserved, this absorbed man builds up a concise universe; a laconic world founded in strong rules and deep convictions. This saga is ruled by a moral law, a unavoidable mandate: to tell the truth, to show it. When Joaquín Torres García'steachings appears, his powerful voice changes the destiny of this saga. This is the way in which this secret core is formed, and this quiet and shadowy space grows up, that even from its own silence, it opens to the eyes of the future. This paper seeks to approach this peculiar knot and probe its conceptual bases, under a focus that explores possible links between Uruguayan architecture and other cultural fields.

Keywords : Ernesto Leborgne; Joaquín Torres García; art; architecture; nature; Montevideo (Uruguay); 20th Century.
