Abstract

PLOTQUIN, Silvio. Committed to modernity, convinced of it. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2020, vol.50, n.1, pp.51-66. ISSN 2362-2024.

Horacio Baliero and Ernesto Katzenstein were partners since 1976. They studied at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Buenos Aires, during a period in which the option of the students was embedded between a rationalist position according to the CIAM, attentive to the ideas of Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus and an "organic" one, according to the recent production of Bruno Zevi. In its own way, the Studio they conformed made an opus on two strings: the recurring technical perfection, which began and ended with the project of each work and was the support of a dialectical spatiality, in Baliero's mode; and the dialogue between architecture and industry that built it but also, and over all, the creation of a form that organized the program of needs and the city, almost a typology that could transcend the material juncture, in Katzenstein's speculations.

Keywords : Horacio Baliero; Ernesto Katzenstein; postwar; modernity; regionalism; Argentina; second half of 20th Century.
