The aim of the article is to show progress of a research that we are developing whose subject is focused on the experiences of popular education with youth and adults in the Department of University Extension from the University of Buenos Aires between 1956 and 1966. The University Extension Department was created at the University of Buenos Aires in 1956. In general, aimed to realize the project of a University for the people. Specifially, in the article we analize the educational program implemented in Maciel Island, where the work of the Department was centered.
