Abstract

MEDAN, Marina. Restorative justice and mediation with juveniles: an experience in San Martín, Buenos Aires. Delito soc. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.41, pp.77-106. ISSN 0328-0101.

This paper is framed within the theoretical debates on processes of youth offenders in contexts of social inequality, where social and security policies are merged. It focuses on restorative justice as a way to deal with youth crime. The main argument is that the experiences of restorative justice are a novel opportunity to, on the one hand, establish a type of relationship between young people and justice that is configured less characterized by institutional violence. On the other hand, to intervene in interpersonal conflicts that could be part of the causes of commiting crime. The argument's empirical referent is a mediation experience implemented since 2013 in San Martin, province of Buenos Aires. The data presented were constructed and analysed through qualitative strategies.

Keywords : Restorative justice; Mediation; Young people.
